This project was created for the Polis Center, a part of IUPUI. The purpose of the Polis Center was to create a database and establish an interdisciplinary urban research center focused on Indianapolis.

Today, the Polis Center is a leader in the development and application of geographic information systems (GIS) technology. The Social Assets and Vulnerabilities Indicators (SAVI) project assisted in created a comprehensive database of social indicators and demographic information in a GIS format. One of the major goals of the project was to make the database accessible from a local host as well as the internet.

A Google-like search engine was created to search through the database. This search engine was improved by using an intelligent results ranking system, spelling corrections, boolean search operators, and additional database connectivity through MS-SQL, MySQL, and Access.
